Honest words about the Discovery Program…
“I have been working with the Discovery Program for the past 19 years, and I continue to see the incredible impact this curriculum has in establishing a healthy school culture. Students value the relationships they are able to establish with peers and adults alike; and it is these relationships that contribute to a substantially safer community—emotionally and physically. Over the years, Discovery has demonstrated sustained success in increasing student engagement, attendance, and achievement—all while decreasing discipline referrals.”
Alan Hollenbeck, Principal, Vantage Point High School, Crossroads Middle School.
“The training provided by Eric impacted out students, staff and agency personnel. All of us learned and modeled the skills necessary to make our school a better place for kids. We invited Eric back for extended training.”
Elece Lockridge, Director, Educational Opportunity Center, Clarkston, Washington
“I have worked with Eric in a variety of settings. He does an excellent job communicating and connecting with kids. His work is crucial in helping them negotiate today’s world. The work of teachers, counselors, administrators and mental health professionals could be greatly enhanced through this training.”
Mark Fallon-Cyr, MD, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, Durango, CO
“Triumph High School is an alternative high school in Cheyenne, Wyoming and our teachers and staff committed to be trained in the Discovery model in the spring of 2010. In the subsequent years we have attended to the culture that is Discovery and it has transformed our culture from one of organized chaos to one that is healthy and productive for both students and staff. The decision to pursue Discovery training has been the single most important professional development decision we have made in the long history of this school. We have redefined the culture and purpose of our school to now be one that is focused on learning and where everyone in our school community treats one another with dignity and respect. We have not had a fight in over 2 years issues of bullying are almost non-existent. Our students often share stories of how they have successfully used the skills they have mastered in Discovery in situations at home and where they work. Words cannot describe the transformation adequately and so I invite anyone to visit our campus to witness what I have tried to explain.”
Mike Helenbolt, Principal, Triumph High School, Cheyenne WY
“The Discovery Program has worked beyond our expectations. Attendance in our alternative high school program hovered at about 70% for five years. This year we are over 95% for the first semester. More significantly, the climate in our building is improved in marked ways. Students understand that this is a building where students respond to adults and other students in appropriate ways and that the consequences for not doing so are swift and fair and students rarely argue about these issues. The serious student drug problem we battled last year has all but disappeared and word has gotten out that this is not the place to go if you think drugs and school are compatible. I cannot speak too highly about Eric and Galynn and the Discovery training we received.”
Bill Rogers, Administrator, Catalyst HS, Newberg, Oregon
“(The Discovery Program) training was informative, inspirational, and gave the school a set path to work with students in a school-wide framework. Comparative results from first semester 211 and 2012 showed increased attendance, better grades, and fewer behavioral incidents once students had gone through Discovery… I would highly recommend Discovery for any school, particularly those who serve a high needs population.”
Jamie Lafaro, Principal, PREP Academy, Denver, Colorado
“Expedition Academy begin using the Discovery Program during the 2013-2014 school year. We had 10 major discipline referrals during this same time last year and only 1 this year. In our first two terms we had a total of 15 Fs. During this same time frame last year we had 69 Fs. Our learning environment has become more focused and our students are taking responsibility for their own actions. It has changed the culture of our school.”
John Poole, Principal, Expedition Academy, Green River, Wyoming
